GUARDRAIL OVERVIEW

Ensure the Safety of Drivers With Our Parking Barriers

PARKING LOT SAFETY

Parking lot safety is one of the most overlooked aspects of parking lot design. Each year, millions of parking lot accidents occur due to negligent drivers and inadequate traffic control. While there is little that can be done to eliminate unsafe drivers, proper parking lot safety can minimize the risk that these drivers pose.

The most effective defense to risky driver behavior is parking lot safety equipment designed to redirect or stop inattentive vehicle operators.

Guardrails and Parking Barriers

The Parking Lot Protection Solution
Parking lot guardrails, also known as parking barriers, serve multiple purposes and are one of the most cost-effective solutions to parking lot safety. Guardrails are commonly found in high-pedestrian traffic areas such as shopping malls, retail stores, sporting venues, and workplaces.

Parking lot guardrails are available in high-strength 12-gauge (Class A) and can be configured with your choice of rail end treatment. For sharp angles and curved areas, we also offer radius guardrails and 90°-angle guardrails.

Parking lot guardrail benefits include:

  • Provides a directional indicator to ensure proper traffic flow
  • Protects pedestrians, property, and other vehicles from distracted or out-of-control drivers
  • Deters potential criminal activity such as auto theft and assault
  • Prevents run-off-road vehicles from impacting with natural or man-made hazards such as ditches, bridges, and buildings

Expert Safety Equipment Installation
Parking lot guardrails are most effective when used in tandem with other parking lot safety equipment such as parking bollards. Southern Guard Rail parking lot safety specialists can help you determine the optimal placement of guardrails and other equipment.

We recommend installing zinc-coated galvanized W-beam guardrailsOur W-beam parking lot guardrails are manufactured using industrial-strength 12-gauge (Class A) galvanized steel for the ultimate in durability and strength.

HIGHWAY SAFETY OVERVIEW

Southern Guard Rail is committed to providing high-quality guardrail and safety components designed to reduce highway fatalities. From wood barrier construction to rail mounting hardware, all products have been monitored and tested for use in state and non-state highway projects.

 Galvanized and Wooden Guardrails

Guardrails are something most people don't think about until it saves their lives. Annually, over 6,840,000 people in the U.S. are involved in roadway accidents, resulting in 3,511,000 injuries and 41,907 fatalities (source: Federal Highway Administration). Guardrails play a major role in saving the lives of people involved in many of those accidents.

Galvanized guardrails are constructed from high-strength 12-gauge (Class A) and 10-gauge (Class B) galvanized steel for effective impact absorption. The most common highway guardrail is the galvanized W-beam, which are longitudinal highway barriers designed to reduce the severity of run-off-road (ROR) collisions.

Roll-formed into the shape of a “W” to typical catch car bumpers, W-beam guardrails have proven an effective and economical solution to roadside safety. Every component of W-beam guardrails, from the mounting hardware to the wooden blockouts, has been subjected to numerous full-scale crash tests to determine the optimal construction method for reducing injuries.

End Treatments

Rail end treatments provide effective deflection and absorption of oncoming traffic without spearing. Rail end treatments are available in a wide variety of end types, including flared end, question mark ends, and D.O.T. approved anchors such as ET2000-SYTP, SRT-350, and MSKT-350.
